IS THE FREQUENCY IN USE? When you visit 14.240 Mhz daily in the late afternoon Eastern Standard Time, you're sure to meet a nice group of guys having fun. I've listen to these guys going at it since 1993. The group is so respected by world amateurs, that the rarest of DX stations (i.e. JY1, etc.) have shown up on this frequency before going to 14.195 Mhz to work the rest of the world. The ring leader is Tony (WA2JUN) who started this group back in 1977 with Paul (WA2JUQ) a year after receiving their ham tickets. It all started one day when they decided to call CQ DX and were introduced to the world. Like a person being addicted to fishing or cars, once you're hooked by ham radio, you don't even want to go to work anymore. I can still hear Tony working the rare DX from his home in Oakland, New Jersey. Tony now lives in Ocklawaha, Florida using the same WA2JUN call sign while entertaining his buddy Ray (AA2WC). Then there is Walter (K1QS) who entertains us daily with his brilliance and quick ability to trash talk when needed. What a great guy and friend he can be! There are many others who join the group such as Rich (W9RG), Jay (KF4OCR), Jay (KA1KRU), K9EID (Bob Heil), Freddie (W4MPI), Al Sr. (KE4TW) , Al Jr. (K4WDX), etc. Here is a typical group photo:
If you hang around long enough, you'll hear from our resident "Rock-n-Roll" star Andy (G7LRR). He always plays it off like he doesn't understand that he's famous, but I'm here to tell you that he is the man. Check it out - he's listed in "Who's Who in the UK" and "Rock Stars Gone While after Dark"!
There are about 20 other DX amateurs that show-up on this frequency keeping it alive such as Murtada (9K2MU), Robert (3B9FR), Shk Mohamed Al-Thani (A71MA), Abdullah (A61AQ), Andy (ZD9BV), ZD9CR, Abdallah (9K2GS), Naser (A61A), John (ZD7WRG/ZD8KW), Rick (VK2ZF), Rob (M0BYA) and many more. So if your rare DX, come join us and be part of our special group of
friends!
